Dr Cath Hunt

I am a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and a Member of the Australian Psychological Society, College of Clinical Psychologists.  I obtained a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) in 2005 and a PhD in Clinical Psychology in 2012, both at the Australian National University.  My PhD research focused on the influence of motivational states and information processing styles on overeating and binge eating and implications for treatment.  My main clinical experience has included treating adults and adolescents with eating and body image disturbances.  I am especially interested and experienced in assisting overweight and obese individuals increase and sustain motivation for healthy weight management.  I have also worked in an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) setting since 2009, which has allowed me to gain experience and skills in assisting people with a wide range of problems including work and relationship concerns.

I adopt an empathetic and potential-guided approach in my work with clients and see the therapeutic relationship as collaborative and empowering. I believe that we all have the natural capacities to make positive changes and see it as my role to help clients discover or reconnect with these capacities and build on the strengths and resources they already have.
